Introduction |
|
The Department of Communication Studies
was established in 2003. It aims at equipping students with theoretical knowledge
and comprehensive understanding of media production. The media industry now
totally depends upon digital technology for capturing, processing, transmitting,
storing and outpouring the images, texts and sounds that they communicate. Media
courses at University of Sargodha have been designed to meet national and international
development needs. The department is offering BA (Hons) 4 years, MA 2 years morning
(regular) and MPhil (self support) programs under semester system. The courses explore
the full range of human communicative activities, whether individuals, groups, organizations
or institutions generate these activities.

The students will study and learn
the ways in which identity is constructed and articulated, as well as the relationships
that exist between communication, technology and information. They will also explore
the impact of globalized system of communication as well as the possibilities for
more localized communicative agency. In Communication Studies, students will attend
lectures as well as individual work, group work, field and production work, investigative
research activities and work involving communities and organizations. They will
have opportunities to exhibit their work both on and off campus and will have access
to a range of further learning activities, media productions, journals and logbooks.
Their activities include like presentations, preparation and production of programs,
evaluation reports, field work and reports. Special attention is paid to develop
creative and research atmosphere and skills among the students. The need for continuous
induction of novel ideas and technology skills has prompted the department to update
curriculum and make it compatible with challenges of new mass media market. The
department consists of senior and young faculty members and quests for creating
research oriented approach among the young faculty members and particularly the
students. The department has a very rich library. A fair number of valuable texts
and reference books covering almost all major subjects of communication studies
have been procured to facilitate the students and the faculty. |
